Oh, the joy of the winter berry
It is so cheery!
Bright colours a-many.
Added charm when frosty,
Decorative in abundance a-plenty,
Berries flourish in December’s wintery weather.
Jewel bright, an uplifting sight,
Berries charm us, dispersing the gloom.
Red, yellow, pink, orange, purple, black and white,
What a fabulous array of berry colour,
Always bright, catching the light,
A most glorious winter sight.
And even with holly setting the tone a-right.
When we start to think of Christmas,
As to how to dress the house decoratively.
If preferring something rather more unusual than the holly berry,
Then the choice has to be the callicarpa berry,
Appropriately known as the ‘Beauty berry’.
It glows violet to purple in striking clusters, which are spectacular.
Long after the leaves have fallen off the shrub,
The bead like berries remain decoratively.
An added bonus, these berries are not a favourite for the birds,
Therefore last in splendour a lot longer
Delighting us well into winter.
How very lucky, thanks to God’s generosity,
We see the glory and feel the joy
Of the often frosty winter berry frequently.
Creator Father, all berries are beautiful to behold, and it certainly is a case of the more, the merrier! Thank You for this glorious addition to autumn and winter. If we could but count the very many berries in
multitude of clusters, even this could not enumerate the quantity of the love You show to us. Your love and generosity exceed everything we know. Amen.
